cut to the chase 这个习惯用语来源于好莱坞电影,许多电影里最精彩的片段都是跟踪追击的场面,导演喊这句话就是让把镜头切换到追踪场面,换句话说就是进行最重要的摄制工作。这个短语也广泛应用在商界,意思是:“言归正传,开门见山,直奔主题”。因此,当美国人说"let's cut to the chase."时,他/她要表达的意思就是:"let's come straight to the point."、"Don't beat about the bush."。
