Authorization作名词意为“授权；批准；委托”，同近义词有permission，legal document，commission。Authorization常见的习惯用语有access authorization访问授权、procurement authorization采购授权书、act of authorization授权行为、letter of authorization授权/委托证书、written authorization书面授权、oral authorization口头授权。
在职场管理方面，授权一般有口头授权（oral authorization）、书面授权（written authorization），是指领导将某项工作或某一方面的权力和责任口头或书面授予下属。
口头授权多属临时性授权（temporary authorization）或随机性授权。口头授权不如书面授权逻辑性强，表达全面，对接收人理解力要求较高；口头授权没有痕迹保留，只能在授权当时进行领悟，事后无法再次领悟，对接收人记忆力要求很高。
