基努•里维斯开始拍《黑客帝国4》
The summer of Keanu Reeves is going out on the greatest possible high. According to Variety, a fourth installment of The Matrix is officially underway, once again starring Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity, respectively.

Lana Wachowski is also set to direct, produce, and cowrite.

“We could not be more excited to be reentering The Matrix with Lana,” Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement. “Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing, and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”

Wachowski wrote and directed the original three Matrix films with her sister, Lilly.

Lilly is reportedly currently working on another project, the upcoming Showtime series Work in Progress.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” Lana said in a statement. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

The script will be cowritten by Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell (author of Cloud Atlas, the 2012 adaptation of which was also cowritten and codirected by the Wachowskis). The film will reportedly begin production in early 2020, Variety notes.

The Matrix trilogy was a huge earner for Warner Bros., with the three films making a combined $1.6 billion worldwide.

The fourth installment will arrive more than 20 years after the first movie, which was released in 1999.
